A Poem for Anyone Who’s Gone Through Recovery

Transformation

When you step outside the cocoon,

you’re new to the weight of your wings.

The muscles have not yet developed.

They’re achy, painful,

but strong, and liberating.

You don’t know what to do with your new found pieces.

But the ground is steady

and the air is open.

Breathe through the pain as you become aware of each tendon in the wings on your back.

Open them slowly and deliberately, close them with the same grace.

Take your time.

Practice.

Inhale open, exhale close.

You become familiar with each breath.

Until your wings lift you from where you are and carry you to where you’re meant to be.
